Es wird Sie freuen, geehrter Herr Tepper, dass sich unter den Pflanzen von Ihnen,
welche für kritische Vergleiche zurückgelegt waren, noch eine andere besonders merkwürdig
erwiesen hat, es ist Ihre N 10, 11 & 370 von Yorke’s penins., nämlich Calocephalus
Drummondi, B., welches Pflänzchen wir noch nicht ausserhalb Westaustralien kannten,
wo ich es 1867 selbst an der Basis des Stirling’s Range fand.
Sollte die Missbildung an Beyera opaca wirklich von Pilzwuchs abhängen, gewöhnlich
entstehen solche
Wucherungen
vegetativer Organe durch Insectanstiche, während Pilze zerstörend in Wachsthums Processe
eingreifen. Indessen: nulla regula sine exceptione

It will please you, respected Mr Tepper, that among the plants from you that were
put aside for critical comparison, another has proved particularly noteworthy, it
is your nos. 10, 11 & 370 from Yorke Peninsula,
namely Calocephalus drummondi B., which little plant we had not known outside Western Australia, where I found
it myself at the base of the Stirling Ranges.

Should the deformity on Beyera opaca really depend on fungal growth, usually such
growths
of vegetative organs are caused by insect bites, whereas fungi interfere destructively
in the process of growth. However: no rule without an exception.
