While the heavy work for the Census
went on, dear Prof. Tate, I occasionally had to trust to my memory, as I have mislaid
the list of S.
A
plants, which I wrote from 1847-1852. I hope to find it, while a general rearrangement
of my correspondence and manuscripts will take place in
May
this year, after moving three times within the last 10 years into different
quaters
. Of my earliest collections I did not keep complete sets for want of space; I am
certain, that when I come to a further revision of my supplemental collections, got
after the successive volumes of the Flora were issued,
I shall be able to give yet many more plants for S.
A.

Bentham (1863-1878).
I miss many plants, concerning which in 1882 I gave you notes as S. Australian species,
for instance Peplidium Muelleri, Between Finke-River and Lake Eyre, Giles.

No letter to Tate in 1882 mentioning Peplidium muelleri
has been found
, but in M to R. Tate, 3 February 1883 (in this edition as 83-02-03a) he mentions having found 'only yesterday' 'Peplidium muelleri, which years ago was
got by Mr Ernest Giles'.
The date of collection has not been found; no collection of the species by any Giles
is listed in AVH (accessed 23 January 2024).
Best thanks for the extraprints of Tatea.

Regardfully your
Ferd von Mueller.
Postscript
I forget, that Peplidium &c were published already, at the end of last year's volume.
I suppose, that you will keep the new addenda also together for the closing of the
last part in 1883.
