Though the signature is missing, it is clear from the handwriting, paper and address that the letter was written by Woolls. The text continues to the end of the page; it appears that a second page has been cut off.

My object in referring to the matter was to meet any objection that might be made. I do not think that any one here is competent to take up the question.

Woolls (1885), pp. 11-13 contains a discussion of classification systems, and justified the use of M's system as distinct from that in Bentham (1863-78), followed by Bailey (1883) and Moore (1884). See also Maroske (2006) for the evolution of M's classification system.
I enclose two fragments of plants from the Macquarie.

I suppose they are Salsola kali & , but it is said that the latter belongs exclusively to the sea-coast or estuaries. Is this really the case?
