Viel habe ich diesmal nicht zu berichten, edler Freund, doch schreitet die geographische Erforschung Australiens durch die Squatters nach u. nach fort, namentlich jetzt in N. W. Australien, wo die so ausgedehnten Weideländereien jetzt occupirt werden, eigentlich durch meinen Antrieb hauptsächlich, da ich 1877 durch meinen Besuch in Westaustralien die Regierung dort anregte, die Colonisation des N. Westens zu fördern, zumal da jetzt die Producte von dort auf so kurzem Wege durch den Suez Canal von vielen guten Häfen nach Europa gebracht werden können, u. das verhältnismässig nahe Indien ja auch Verkaufsplätze für Pferde u. Rinder darbietet. Meine Vorträge über "Rural Industries" u. über die Pflanzengeographie Australiens werden Sie wohl im Abdruck erhalten haben.

Sie erinnern, dass ich 1856 einer der 4 Entdecker jener grossen Weideländereien war.

I do not have much to report this time, noble Friend, yet the geographical exploration of Australia gradually continues by the squatters, especially now in north-west Australia, where the so extensive pasture lands are now being occupied, actually through my initiative principally, because through my visit in Western Australia in 1877 I suggested to the government there to promote the colonization of the north-west, especially since the produce from there could now be brought to Europe from there on such a short way through the Suez Canal from many good harbours, and the comparatively close India indeed even offered markets for horses and stock. I suppose you will have received my lectures in reprints about "Rural Industries' and about plant geography of Australia.
