MS annotation by Tepper: 'Reply 28.2.83'. Letter not found. MS annotation by Tepper: 'Sent to R. Soc. S.A. 5.3.83'. The separate sheet on which the list of plant names and this annotation appear has been interleaved incorrectly with the list M sent to Tepper on 12 August 1883. A paper by Tepper, 'Botanical notes relating to South Australia', was read to the Royal Society of South Australia on 6 February 1883. Some but not all of the species listed here were added to the version of the paper before it was published in December (Tepper (1883)).

Durch überhäufte Arbeiten, geehrter Herr Tepper, ist meine Correspondenz etwas in Rückstand gekommen. Ich habe Ihnen die Namen einiger Ihrer Cryptogamen zu liefern, was in den nächsten Tagen geschehen soll; hiermit die Benennung einiger Ihrer Flechten, wobei ich besonders bemerke, dass es wünschenswerth sei, auf die ganz kleinen Flechten Arten Ihre Aufmerksamkeit besonders zu wenden, solche als man nur findet oder unterscheidet, wenn man mit einer Loupe über die Rinden, welche Flechten tragen, hinsieht.

Through overwhelming work, dear Mr Tepper, my correspondence has got somewhat in arrears. I have to give you the names of some of your cryptogams, which shall happen in the next few days; herewith the naming of some of your lichens, about which I particularly remark that it is desirable to turn your attention especially to the quite small lichen species such as one only finds or distinguishes when one looks with a magnifying glass over the bark that bears lichens.
