Lassen Sie meinen besten Glückwunsch für das neue Jahr, lieber Herr Tepper, Ihnen ausgesprochen sein; mag es Ihnen recht viel Freude bringen, und Ihr neuer Wirkungskreis ein angenehmer werden; und nehmen Sie auch meinen besten Dank hin für die Wunche, welche Sie mir ausprechen für diese neuen annuellen Zeitabschnitt. Das letzte Jahr ist für mich fast freudelos gewesen; vielleicht bringt mir das neue eine Fülle froher Ereignisse.

In Bezug auf Ihre Pilzezeichnungen mussen Sie bedenken, dass die Arten fast alle schon früher in Europe abgebildet wurden, da die meisten unserer Pilze mit denen anderer Weltgegenden identisch sind. Also wurde irgend eine Anstalt nur für Veröffentlichung eine kleine Auswahl treffen können. Ich würde die Zeichnungen bereitwillig nach Europe an einen meiner mycologischen Freunde senden, ohne aber dafür Verantwortlichkeit zu übernehmen, die Exemplare der Pilze sind auch alle nach Europe gesandt worden.

Tepper resigned from his teaching position at Clarendon, SA, on 30 March 1883 and was appointed to the staff of the South Australian Museum in April.
and also accept my best thanks for the wishes that you express to me for this new annual period. The last year has been almost joyless for me; perhaps the new will bring me an abundance of joyful events.

In reference to your fungi drawings you must consider that the species were almost all already figured previously in Europe, since the majority of our fungi are identical with those of other parts of the world. Thus any institution would only be able choose a small number for publication. I would willingly send the drawings to Europe to one of my mycological friends, but without undertaking responsibility for them, the specimens of the fungi have also all been sent to Europe.
