MS is a fragment of a letter. It is listed in the Fryer Library as 'Fragment of letter, signed by von Mueller, to correspondent unknown, [n.d.]' but the item number is within the range of items from M to Henry Tryon, (i.e. M to H. Tryon, 18 September 1893 (in this edition as 93-09-18a) and M to H. Tryon, 16 August 1893). It is therefore probable that when the Father Edward Leo Hayes Papers collection within the Fryer Library was being assembled, the fragment was obtained from the same source as the known items M sent to Tryon. The correspondent is given here as Tryon, but it is far from certain. If he was the addressee, it must be dated after 1882 when Tryon came to Qld, and most likely after he was appointed to the Qld Museum in 1883. The earliest date of specimens in MEL collected by Tryon is June 1883. The earliest likely date it would have been written is 1883, and it is dated accordingly.
If at any time I […] get some little Eucalyptus-seeds from you there (named) I should be thankful; some correspondents in tropical countries have asked for it; your species do mostly not occur at Port Phillip.
