The lapsed certificate for MacGillivray could not be produced at the Royal Society Archives in November 2019, so the details are taken from the printed List of Candidates prepared annually after 1847 for the information of Council and Fellows (1884 list, p. 9). The layout is modelled on the form of the certificates used in the period.
The certificate is dated to 1883 by reference M to W. Thiseleton-Dyer, 10 January 1884 (in this edition as 84-01-10a), which implies that the nomination process was underway and support was being gathered.
