You will be pleased, dear Mr Tepper, that the great algologist J Agardh, the son of the founder of algal studies, that is Bishop Agardh, has taken the trouble in his 70th year to name your algae.

Haloplegma?
, , , , , and some other easily recognised algae I believe having given you the names already on receipt. However, I thought it best to send all yours so that he would see it in various stages and in part new localities. The nine underlined are new for S. A. and I would ask you to communicate these nine names to Professor Tate immediately, so that they are included as well in the list (Supplement to the Census)

Tate (1882), described as 'additions' to the flora, contains a long list of algae, many attributed to Tepper as collector. A number of those, including one new species, were named by Agardh, but the list with underlined names has not been found and it is not known whether they were included. The volume was issued in December 1882.
just now sent to press.
I thank you for sending your essay on the origin of melitose so sensitively dedicated to me.

Tepper (1884), read in London on 15 February 1883; the part in which it appeared was issued in July 1883. A note added in proof acknowledged M's sending Tepper the 1851 issue of the Proceedings of the Royal Society of Van Diemen's Land in which two earlier papers on the subject had appeared; see M to O. Tepper, 21 October 1882 (in this edition as 82-10-21b).
Only in the next week shall I have some peace to read through this fine paper closely.
Some evasculars have now arrived again. Permit me to remark that the specimens in many cases are somewhat too small , which discourages the specialists from working on them and which makes the retention of any for the State Collection in Melbourne an impossibility.
Respectfully your
Ferd. von Mueller.
