Nordhausen am Harz
10 Sept. 82.
Verehrtester Herr College!
Sp.Alg.411.
450. St. Vincents Golf: Kg. Sp.Alg.407.
ganz ergebenster
Kützing.

Nordhausen (Harz), 10 Sept. 82.
Most esteemed colleague,
Firstly, receive my warmest thanks for sending your photograph and the continuation of your "Fragmenta phytogr. austral.", of which the 11th volume like all the previous ones once more bears witness to your great diligence in all branches of science.
I have only recently examined and determined the two algae that you enclosed with your letter of 6 June. That letter and the other things arrived here during the long holidays that I have usually used for scientific work, but this time I was away visiting my married children, and after the holidays some of them came to visit here and microscopic examinations were out of the question.
Now, the two algae are:
the one on mangrove roots: Kg. Sp. alg. 411.
450. St. Vincent's Gulf: Kg. Sp. Alg. 407.
It seems to me that all our freshwater algae also occur with you in South Australia. I have already received various ones of them through our late Sonder, and if you should have more, or collect more in future, it would be pure joy to me to determine them. Maybe I shall use these things some time to work up a comparison of your freshwater algae with our German species and publish it in a future Easter programme of our High School. I am still so much at home in these things that determination does not pose any particular difficulties. In addition I believe that in spite of my 75 years a few more years of life will still be granted to me.
While I hope and wish that these lines may find you well and happy, I sign with sincerest regards as
Your very devoted
Kützing.
