Letter not found. The text given here is from 'ARARAT AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY. autumn exhibition', Ararat and Mount Pleasant Creek advertiser and chronicle for the District of the Wimmera, 16 March 1883, p. 2. The letter is dated on the assumptions that the seed would have been planted soon after receipt and that the seed exhibited came from the first crop.
[ A very choice lot of agricultural seeds was shown, not for competition, by Mr J. W. Reid, from the Asylum farm, amongst which was some bearded wheat, the seed of which was received by the Society from Baron Von Mueller. One pound was sown on the 24th June, in drills nine inches apart and six inches between the plants. No manure was used, and on the 14th December, twent y -seven pounds of wheat were gathered .]
