My dear Sir
I send you the leaf, blossom and wood of one of the Eucalypts found growing on the
Richmond River
and shall feel very much obliged if you will kindly tell me which of them it is,
the tree is of sturdy growth foliage dense, some times of droopy habit, and handsome,
wood soft, bark like that of the Stringybk

NSW.

Stringybark.
The specimens I send are not very good, but the best I could provide
Will you also kindly tell me whether the Apple tree (
) is classed amongst the Eucalypts or not? I have been told there is some difference
of opinion about it

If not intruding too much upon your valuable time and good nature you would place
me under further obligation by giving me some information respecting the blossoming
time and ripening of the seeds of of
some of our principal Eucalypts. I have not given this matter any special attention
but if I mistake not some of these trees only blossom at intervals of several years,
am I correct?

Word repeated in going from one line to the next.
I am glad to say that our Government seem to have become at last sensible of the importance
of Forest conservation, and forestry; they have promised to introduce a bill next
Session.
Strange as it may sound there is no work on [Arboriculture] in our public library,
nor have I been able to obtain it from any of the book sellers in Sydney. Could you
direct me where to obtain a work on Forestry as it is conducted in Germany?
Pardon the liberty I take in troubling you as I have done and allow me to Subscribe
myself
Yours very faithfully
Augustus Rudder
