Mit dem Schiffe Winefred sende ich eine Kiste Naturalien an Sie ab, edler Freund, enthaltend: Knochen Bruchstücke und einige Zähne von Diprotodon aus West Australien, von woher wir zum ersten mal Reste dieses Riesen Marsupials der Vorzeit haben.
2 Eier von Leipoa ocellata
1 Ex. des grossen schlangenartigen Regenwurms, den M'Coy beschrieb.
Spongien von N. O. und S. W. Australien
Menura Alberti ♀,
Nest u. Eier (grösste Seltenheit!) das Thier legt nur ein Ei im Jahr, ein Muster von Keuschheit!
Die zweite Kiste ist noch nicht gefüllt, soll aber bald folgen, darin 50 benannte Vogeleier dieser Colonie. Das Ei des Casuarius ist freilich noch nicht gekommen.

I am sending off a box of natural history objects by the ship Winefred to you, noble Friend, containing: Pieces of bone and some teeth of Diprotodon from Western Australia, from where we have for the first time remains of these giant marsupials of prehistoric times.
Two eggs of Leipoa ocellata
One specimen of the large snake-like earth worm that M'Coy described.

Sponges from north-east and south-west Australia.
Menura alberti ♀,
nest and egg (of the greatest rarity!). The creature lays only one egg in the year, a model of chastity!
The second box is not yet filled but will soon follow, in it 50 named bird's eggs of this Colony. The egg of Casuarius has of course not yet arrived.
