Ich war unter dem Eindruck, edler Freund, dass Mr Ivey bereits die engl. Ausgabe von Wittstein's Werk besässe; denn ich dachte, dass er ein so wichtiges Werk für seine Arbeiten, wie er hier eine Stellung im Agricultur-Departement hielt, müsste angeschafft haben. Indessen sende ich es ihm jetzt mit der Post. Wie er hier war, und mit meinen mir entzogenen Apparaten arbeitete, hat der Herr nicht die geringste Notiz von mir genommen, und selbstverständlich das vergisst sich nicht so leicht selbst da er an meinem Unglück nicht Schuld trug. Sympathie hätte er mir zeigen können und dazu hatte er Gelegenheit in seinen Rapporten.

Lassen mir, Bester, die Wiederherausgabe der "Select plants" für Neu-Seeland ruhen. Ich bin Ihnen nicht weniger verpflichtet für Ihre Anstrengungen, wenn solche auch erfolglos blieben. Über Kirk wundere ich mich, denn ich bin ihm doch in dem Werke bezüglich der Notizen über die Nutzbäume Neu Seelands völlig gerecht geworden.

Rudall wird im November zurückerwartet, es mag aber doch December werden ehe er wirklich wieder hier ist.

because I thought that he must have bought a publication so important for his work, as he held a position here in the Agriculture Department. Meanwhile I am sending it to him by post. When he was here and worked with my apparatus taken away from me,

the gentleman took not the slightest notice of me, and of course that is not so easily forgotten even though he is not to be blamed for my misfortune. He could have shown me sympathy and moreover he had opportunity in his reports.

Let me, best of friends, touch on the republication of the Select plants for New Zealand. I am no less obliged to you for your efforts, even if such remain unsuccessful.

I am surprised about Kirk

Thomas Kirk.

since I surely have done justice to him completely in the work in reference to notes about useful trees of New Zealand.

Rudall is expected back in November, yet it may be December before he is really here again.

Dr James Rudall made an extended tour of Europe and America during 1881; Haast travelled to Melbourne to consult him before he departed.

The seems to be named incorrectly by Kirk. Roots easy to get from Wellington, perhaps closer.
