Ich halte es für meine Pflicht, edler Herr, Ihnen mitzutheilen, dass ich eben einige Zoologica an Herrn Director Blasius in Braunschweig absende, der für seine Arbeiten in der vergleichenden Anatomie besonders von hier Materialien wünscht. Unter dem Allerlei, welches ich für ihn zusammengebracht habe, dürfte kaum irgendetwas sein, das Sie nicht schon erhalten haben, es wäre denn einer der Fische. Sie brauchen aber nicht anzunehmen, dass ich Ihnen untreu werde; denn wenn ich irgend etwas erlange, das noch vorher nicht zu Ihnen ging, so soll es für Sie immer bleiben, obwohl das Museum meiner Vaterstadt Rostock auch einige Ansprüche an mich macht.

Sie werden den Band der Linnéan Society of New South Wales erhalten haben, in welchem M'Leay die sämmtlichen Fische Australiens herzählt; es wird nun interessant sein zu erfahren, wie sich die Zahl u. der Begriff der Arten nach den eingehenderen Arbeiten der Herrn Professoren Klunzinger u. Steindacher gestalten wird. M'Leay hat seine Diagnostik offenbar nicht conservativ genug gehalten. Ich hoffe mit einem der nächst abgehenden deutschen Dampfschiffe bald wieder neue Sendungen für Ihr Museum liefern zu können.

I regard it as my duty, noble Sir, to inform you that I am just sending off some zoological items to Director Blasius in Braunschweig, who requested material particularly from here for his work in comparative anatomy. Among all the kinds of things that I brought together for him, there may scarcely be anything that you have not already received, unless it would be one of the fish. However, you need not assume that I am disloyal to you, because if I obtain anything that did not go to you previously, it shall always remain for you although the museum of my home town Rostock also makes some claims on me.

You will have received the volume of the Linnean Society of New South Wales in which M'Leay lists all the fishes of Australia;

it will now be interesting to ascertain how the number and species concept will develop according to the more detailed work of Professors Klunzinger
