Dear Sir Ferdinand
As soon as I find time I will go through all your letters and find out about the "Ironbark box". At present there is something I do not understand. The tree which I call Dargan I see you name E. Melliodora. I must see therefore which of my samples you have spoken of as "Ironbark box". It present I cannot recall anything of it.
I observed this morning that the E. tereticornis round this place are generally dying. I examined a number of trees in all stages but could not find any insects at work. All I observe is that the leaves are in various stages from patched of dead substance to the whole leaf dry and withered.
It has suggested itself to me whether this may result from the attack of some minute insect or from some fungus. I send you a set of leaves in various stages.
yours faithfully
A. W. Howitt
