This day I learn, dear Mr Odgers, that the Russian Naturalist Maclay will be returning
to Melbourne in a few days, so that it would be best to defer sending the books, which
you kindly procured for him, to Sydney.
I called at the Australian Club on Wednesday last for him, but was told, that he
had gone to Sydney the week before and that it was very doubtful whether he would
come back again.

See T. Wilson to M, 20 April 1881. Miklouho-Maclay was reported as having passed through Albury, NSW, by rail en route to Melbourne on 26 April 1881 (Argus, 27 April 1881, p. 5). However, a set of publications was sent, apparently to Sydney,
for Miklouho-Maclay on 23 April, presumably before the present letter was received,
and acknowledged on his behalf in a letter from the Imperial Russian Consul there
(E. Paul to G. Berry, 25 May 1881, U81/2810, unit 1271, VPRS 3991/P, Public Record
Office, Victoria).
Regardfully your
Ferd. von Mueller
