14/4/81.
To Robert Curtis Esq.
Secretary to the trustees of the public Library, Melbourne.
Sir.
In reply to your letter of yesterday I have the honor to inform you, that after a consultation with Geheim-Rath Prof. Dr. Reuleaux

The Chief Commissioner for Germany at the Melbourne International Exhibition, 1880-1 (International Exhibition (1880-1881: Melbourne), (1880) p. xvi.
I accept on behalf of Herr Theodor Fischer of Cassel the offer of the trustees of the Melbourne public Library, to secure the series of works, exhibited by the above named Publisher here, for the sum of £125.- .-. Altho' the reduction from the invoice-price of £220.- .- is so large, yet I gladly agree in the reduction, not only because Mons. Rothschild of Paris reduced on his own accord and in a commendable liberal spirit the price of his Exhibition-books in a similar proportion, but also and mainly, because the Fischerian series of works will thus remain forever accessible here to men of science in our celebrated public Library, and I feel sure, that so generous a man as Herr Fischer will for this reason be quite content and will acquiesce in what I do here now on his behalf finally.
