My dear Baron
I have forwarded two specimens of shrubby gums from the Blue Mountains. The one is in flower from near "Wentworth Falls" the other is not in flower and is from Blackheath. I tried hard to get a specimen in flower but failed to do so. I have not seen it growing on the mountain but at Blackheath and it has very much the appearance of E. stricta,

has a smooth bark , generally sessile flower & fruit, and is much later in flowering than E. stricta. It has smaller leaves, and does not grow so tall. As I have said before it seems to be confined to the district of Blackheath on the Blue Mountains at an elevation of about 3600 ft. I believe it is the E. microphylla of Cunningham. The other specimen is E. stricta and grows on different parts of the Mountain, and has at first sight much the appearance of the other. It grows as high as ten or twelve feet, & sometimes only three, has a smooth bark, flowers earlier in the season than other.
I hope they may be of some little service to you.
I have observed in the "Sydney Herald"

that you are bringing out a work on the "Algae" of Australia. I have been collecting for some time, & have a good many specimens now — (none of which are named for I do not know any thing about algae —) if they would be of service to you and if you would kindly name the remainder I should be most happy to forward them.
Wishing you the compliments of the season
I remain my dear Baron
Yours most sincerely
Robert Collie.
