Je suis sensible à l'honneur qui m'a été temoigné par son Excellence le Ministre des Affaires Étrangères d'Italie à propos des suggestions que je me suis permis de faire concernant la plantation des pins dans les régions insalubres, qui sont près de la métropole de votre grand Royaume.

Je prends la liberté d'envoyer des grains d' qui pourront produire des milliers de plantes et dans quelques semains j'en enverrai une égale quantité de la variété "regnans" qui seront arrivées des montagnes, cette variété étant, peut-être mieux adaptée pour les régions malsaines, elle constitue aussi les arbres les plus gigantesque de l'Australie.

Je suis heureux de pouvoir vous faire ces envois sans dépense. On ne peut pas obtenir à présent des graines de l'espèce très rare d' .

Je tacherai d'obtenir des graines des meilleurs pins résinaux de l'Amérique du Nord avec l'aide de mes amis scientifiques pour qu'on puisse instituer des plantations d'essai avec ces espèces importantes, si son Excellence veut bien le permettre.

Je serai toujours très heureux d'accomplir ce que vous jugerez convenable et je reste monsieur le Marquis

I am very conscious of the honour his Excellency the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs has done me in connection with the suggestions I took it upon myself to make regarding the planting of pines in the insalubrious regions near the metropolis of your great Kingdom.

I take the liberty of sending some seeds of

Eucalyptus amygdalina.

3 that could produce thousands of plants and in a few weeks I shall send an equal quantity of the variety "regnans" that will be coming from the mountains, that variety being perhaps better adapted for the unhealthy regions; it also constitutes the most gigantic trees of Australia.

I am happy to make this sendings to you without cost. One cannot at present obtain seeds of the very rare .

Copyist's error for E. coccifera?

I shall try to obain seeds of the best resinous pines of North America with the help of my scientific friends so that trial plantings can be instituted with these important species, if his Excellency wishes to permit it.
