Eucalyptus cordata

Decorative letterhead.
My dear Baron Von Mueller
Io Paean!
Eucalyptus Cordata
is found at last. Shortly after the date of my last letter
I received from Recherche Bay
a branchlet of a young Eucalyptus (part of which I I
enclose), and this was followed by a letter from the finder stating that there was
no blossom or any sign of fruit on any of the trees near. I set him to work again,
but in the mean time another man has been at work, and has today brought up specimens
with the fruit well developed.

Praise be!

The last preceding surviving letter, T. Stephens to M, 13 May 1880, does not refer to the search for this species.

Tas.

Word repeated on turning page.
I am only in town for a few hours, and shall not be able to get all particulars about
locality, &c, for some little time; but Mr Roblin
will send you this last contribution, and the getting the blossom will only be a question
of time.

T. Roblin, curator of the Museum in Hobart.
I am
very truly your's
