Dear Sir
I beg to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 29th ulto,
asking for a few notes on the durability of Eucalyptus woods, for the information
of Captn. Cooper,
California; and in reply I beg to say that the principal wood used by the Department
for sleepers is red gum, and I forward you herewith extracts from reports on this
timber written by Messrs Wills and Greene, late Resident Engineers in this Department.
