MS annotation by Haynald: 'Baron Muller Ferdin. | 7/10 1881. scripsi ex mihi [writings of mine]: "Parlatore," "Castenea," "Ceratophyllum", "Algae Equado[rae]".' The first three items are respectively Haynald (1879), Haynald (1881a) and Haynald (1881), copies of which are in the offprint collection at the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne. The fourth item has not been identified; however, Haynald is known to have acquired P. Sodiro's collection of plants from Ecuador (see Ascherson (1893a), p. LIII).

Es liegt mir die Pflicht ob, Ew Eminenz für die Gewogenheit zu danken, mir mit handschriftlicher Notiz den ersten Theil Ihrer gelehrten Schriften über die Bibel-Gewächse mitgetheilt zu haben. Diese wichtige Abhandlung, welche sich an die Arbeiten von Celsius, Hiller u Ursinus anschliesst, wird mir aus Ew. Eminenz eigner Hand stets ein werthvolles Souvenir bleiben.
