Dear Baron Mueller
I quite agree with you and tender my thanks for the trouble you have taken with our Tarrietias T. argyrodendron, Fragm IX. 42 & T. trifoliolata, IX. 43.
2
B75.05.05.
are quite distinct species both fine timber trees the first might be called the silver-leaved and the other the bronzed leaved Tarrietias But why you do not acknowledge the third and much more distinct species I cannot think.
3
M had noted T. argyrodendron var. actinophylla in his discussion in B75.05.05, p. 42.
I have always called it T. actinophylla being under the impression that you had thus named it but it seems I am wrong in this, for I cannot find your diagnosis of the species And now I fancy you have it mixed up with the 2 first-mentioned I intend to place it in my synopsis as T. actinophylla,
4
See Bailey (1883), p. 37.
and so forward you by this mail a leaf and panicle with fruit.
5
See F. Bailey to M, 6 September 1880 (in this edition as 80-09-06a).
A flower specimen I sent you years ago so you have them by you will you kindly set this to rights in the next Fragmenta
6
M did not again discuss Tarrietia in the Fragmenta.
Remember the leaflets are glabrous on both sides and often larger than those sent the panicle is also often larger and the samaras often measure 2 in. long & 1 broad. It is a large upright tree larger than the other 2 & bearing a dense head of dark green foliage. Hab. Taylors Range

8
M had distinguished from T. javanica in B75.05.05, p. 43.
can it belong to that species?
Your Obediently
