7/5/80.
7 May 1880.
Best thanks, dear Mr Holtze, for mentioning me so kindly in your Report.

The report on the state of the Fanny Bay Experimental Nursery, dated 1 March 1880, was addressed to the Government Resident in Palmerston (NT). It was published in the South Australian press; see e.g. South Australian register, 27 April 1880, p. 6. Holtze acknowledged assistance from other gardens:
I have already a good collection of tropical fruit-trees, most of which are doing very well. For the most of them I am indebted to the repeated presents of Dr. Scheffer, Director of the Buitenzorg Botanic Gardens in Java, to whom our thanks are due. I cannot forget to mention the many presents received from Dr. Schomburgk and Baron Ferdinand von Müeller, as well as the kindness of Mr. W. Hill, of the Brisbane Botanical Gardens, in supplying us with the cane for planting.
Your administration does you credit and will bring good results.
Enclosed fresh seeds of the three best quinine plants. Perhaps the climate is too dry and too hot there for such mountain plants; however, giving them a try can't do any harm. A protected position would be desirable there for these e.
With best greetings
Ferd. von Mueller.
Please be so kind and take note of any fungi there. I also commend all eucalypts to your kind observation, as several species from there are only imperfectly known to me, and with the representative material available so far they cannot be included in my Eucalyptus Atlas.

Eucalyptographia. Publication began in 1879 (B79.13.11) and continued until decade 10, 1884 (B84.11.02).
You, too, will be mourning the sudden death of poor Dr Scheffer.
