[ Mr. Lawrence F. Hollwell Short, for the present residing at Miriam Vale, near Gladstone, Queensland, writes to Baron Von Mueller that he is willing to pay £150 to wards an expedition in search of any remnants of Dr. Leichhardt's party, if such could be organised and fitted out, and the same gentleman generously offers another £80 should the expedition be out over one year. He moreover is willing to join the search party as a volunteer, and his services would be most valuable from his long experience as a traveller in some of the least travelled parts of the globe.]

The article continues by listing the parts of Australia, South Sea islands, South America, North America and southern Africa in which Short had travelled. Ernest Giles was suggested as the leader of such an expedition.
The article was reprinted in Morning bulletin (Rockhampton, Qld), 2 June 1880, p. 2, and elsewhere. Lewis (2013) does not mention Short's offer, or any search expedition that may have arisen from it.
