Jüngst hatte ich die Ehre, edler Herr, Ihnen einige kurze Notizen über das flüchtige Öl von Blättern von
Eucalyptus microcorys

mitzutheilen, u. ich nahm die Gelegenheit wahr, Ihre geneigte Aufmerksamkeit auf den Umstand zu lenken, dass das dauerhafte Zimmerholz dieses colossalen Baumes, wenn frisch zersägt, eine ölige Flüssigkeit aussondert, welche nicht flüssig ist u sich nicht verseift und das Holz so schlüpfrig macht, um ein Hingehen längs den Brettern zu verhindern.
Es war von Interesse, die Beschaffenheit dieses öligen Feuchtigkeit kennenzulernen, u solche hat sich als Viscin ergeben oder als eine damit verwandte neue Substanz, über deren chemische u physikalische Beschaffenheit ich demnächst weiter berichten werde.

, and I used the opportunity to direct your kind attention to the circumstance that the durable timber of this colossal tree, when freshly sawn, exudes an oily liquid that is not runny and does not saponify and makes the wood so slippery as to prevent stepping along the boards.

It was of interest to get to know the composition of this oily moisture, and it has revealed itself as Viscin or a new substance related to it, I shall soon report again about its chemical and physical composition.
