Besten Dank, lieber Herr Landsmann, für Ihre freundliche Gratulation zum neuen Jahre,
welche ich bestens erwidere. Möge auch Ihnen das neue Jahr und ganze neue Decennium
eins des Segens u der Freude sein und Ihnen viel Glück bringen.
Ihre Abhandlung wird sehr vielseitig u belehrend werden, und beeile ich mich Ihnen
die Namen aus der neuesten Sendung mitzutheilen. Nachträge werden selbstverständlich
noch immer zu liefern sein.
Unter den Seegräsern ist gewiss Cymodocia antarctica Endlicher. häufig an Ihre Küste
aufgewerfen nach Stürmen. Dieses Gewächs ist sehr kenntlich
an der ausgerundeten Spitze der Blätter. Bei Holdfast bay sah ich oft fuderweise.
Dies feuchte Jahr scheint ungünstig für die Entwicklung der Manna von Euc. viminalis
zu sein. Wenigstens habe ich bisher nichts darüber erfragen können. Wäre es nicht
wünschenswert, einige kurze Notizen über die Temperatur Verhältnisse u den Regenfall
Ihrer Halbinsel mit anzugeben, da denn Ihre Abhandlung dem Auslande um so interessanter
würde. Aber die Armuth der dortigen Eucalypten bin ich erstaunt. Giebt es denn wirklich
den Red Gumtree Euc. rostrata dort nicht?

which I very warmly reciprocate. May the New Year and the whole new decennium also
be one of blessing and joy to you and bring you much happiness.
Your paper will be very comprehensive and instructive, and I hasten to inform you
of the names from the latest consignment. Supplements will of course still be able
to be supplied.
Endlicher is certainly frequently thrown up among the sea grasses on your coast after
storms. This plant is very recognisable by the hollowed out apices of the leaves.
I often saw them by the cart-load near Holdfast Bay.
This wet year seems to be unfavourable for the development of the manna from
. At least hitherto I have not been able to ascertain anything about it. Would it
not be desirable to give a few short notes on temperature conditions and the rainfall
of your peninsula as well, because your paper would then be so much the more interesting
for those abroad. However, I am astonished at the poverty of the eucalypts there.
Is the Red Gum
really not there?

you will have the opportunity to distribute the enclosed circular
to scientifically inclined friends especially in the interior.
Are there still Aborigines near you, from whom it would be possible to ascertain from
which
Eucalyptus roots of the Mallee Scrub it is possible to get the most water?
