Letter not found. The text given here is from Bulletin de la Société d'acclimatation, series 3, vol. 7, p. 39 (B80.01.01). It is dated to December 1879 as the lastest
likely date that it could have been sent to be read at the meeting of 23 January 1880.
The text is introduced by ' M. le baron Ferd. Von Mueller écrit de Melbourne:' [Baron
Ferd. von Mueller writes from Melbourne:].
I read in the July number of the Bulletin (1879)
that Prince Troubetskoy reports E. colossea and diversicolor as perishing from a cold, the first of 3 degrees, the other of 7.5°. Could one know
which of the two is the true E. colossea? For the two names indicated belong in reality to the same species. There must therefore
be two different trees cultivated under the above names. You should have received a copy of my report on the forest resources of Western Australia;
this work includes a figure of E. diversicolor that would allow this species to be recognized easily.
