It is now more than 20 years ago, dear Mr Shillinglaw, that the notice of Rob Brown occurred in the Gardeners chronicle from Sir Joseph Hooker, indeed it was in 1858.

The authors of the two obituaries for Robert Brown (1773-1858) in the Gardeners' chronicle of 1858, the details of which follow, are not identified. The editor of the journal at the time was John Lindley.
