Towards Flora Australiensis
7
Line struck through; the final volume had been published in 1878. M to G. Berry, 7 September 1878, requested funds for a supplement, or an abridged but supplemented edition, which was approved as an abridged Flora (see M to G. Berry, 3 January 1879). A sum of £125 was included in the vote for the Government Botanist 'Towards the publication of an edition of the Flora Australiensis, approved on 28 January 1880 (Victoria, Votes and Proceedings of the Legislative Assembly, Session 1879-80 , p. 239). However, in M to W. Odgers, 27 September 1879, M requested, if permitted by the Audit Act, to use this amount for 'employment of a collector or purchase of plants purposely collected'. He asked the same question in M to G. Berry, 24 January 1880. Although replies have not been found, it appears as if M had already spent some of the amount in this way, but could not continue to do so.
