Letter not found. The text given here is from 'Briefs of correspondence', California horticulturist and floral magazine, vol. 9, p. 342, 1879. It is dated to September as the latest likely date that it could have been sent to have been reported in the November issue of the journal.
Charles Shinn was the Editor, and the package may have been addressed to him personally.
