On 6 June, Odgers instructed that a letter dated 7 April from the British Consul General in Algeria, R. L. Playfair, which thanked the Chief Secretary for 'information re Australian Trees' and asked 'for a small quantity of the seed' be forwarded to M. The file was sent to M the next day and M's reply appears on the cover sheet of the file.
In accordance with the wish of Consul Playfair, a collection of samples of Eucalyptus-seeds, comprising 13 of the best timber species correctly named, is forwarded herewith, in order that the principal kinds, recommended in the reports from this colony (including also a former document of my own) may be raised under Consul Playfairs care for a normal collection, to which I can subsequently contribute as occasion arises.
