Annotated in pencil: And. | [Augt.] 16.79.
Letter not found, but see M to W. Thiselton-Dyer, 10 October 1879 (in this edition
as 79-10-10a) which is probably an answer to Thiselton-Dyer's letter.
Let me thank you, dear Mr Dyer, for your kind sending of the seeds of
, which I now try to raise in several places under glass. I remember having read about
this plant, but in the still utterly disorganized and almost paralyzed state of my
Department I have hardly access to anything, and can thus not find out all particulars
about this new plant. Be so kind to tell me, whether it can be utilized also for Tapioca
or Farina or Cassava, and what is the precise locality of the species, so that I get
an idea of its endurance of cool weather.

From B85.13.26, M included an entry for this species in his Select plants but commented: “Perhaps the plant must be regarded as strictly tropical, and as then
not admissible within the scope of this work”.
Any such sendings, made by kind consideration of Sir Joseph and yourself, will help
me to keep up at least to a slight extent my standing of former years.
Regardfully your
Ferd von Mueller
