The addressee is attributed on the basis of the editorship of the Botanical magazine at this date; the fragment is dated assuming that the earliest probable date the relevant part of the Botanical magazine could have arrived in Melbourne is mid-to-late June 1879.
I was particularly pleased to see the figure of in your splendid Bot. Mag.

was illustrated in the Botanical magazine, plate 6420, in the part dated 1 April 1879. The accompanying notes state: 'For the seeds of this pretty plant, the Royal Gardens are indebted to Baron von Mueller'.
This reminds of years passed bye - of hope, when I had chances to add to the plants of Horticulture abroad far better than now.
