Mit dem Schiffe Wotonga sende ich Ihnen, lieber Herr Landsmann, nun endlich eine Gegengabe für Ihren Ceratodus, bestehend aus Fischen der Port Phillip Bay. Vielleicht besitzt Ihr Museum bereits die meisten dieser Arten; aber in solchem Falle werden Ihnen die Exemplare für Austausch in Indien zu Nutze kommen, oder vielleicht sonstwo.

Sagen Sie mir gütig, in wie weit diese Sendung den Werth der Ihrigen deckt, damit ich nicht in Ihrer Schuld bleibe.

With the ship Wotonga I am sending you, dear fellow countryman, at last a gift in return for your Ceratodus, consisting of fishes from Port Phillip Bay. Perhaps your Museum already has most of these species, but in such a case the specimens will come in use to you for exchange in India, or perhaps elsewhere.

Kindly tell me how far this consigment covers the value of yours, so that I do not remain in your debt.
