W.H.Odgers Esqr.
Undersecretary.
Sir,
In compliance with the request, conveyed by your circular N.1444
I have the honor to submit herewith my propositions for the estimates of the Gov.
Botanists Department during the financial year 1879-1880. No alterations in the estimates
of last year are made by me, except that I have raised the salaries of the two Assistants
by £25 (this being nearly equivalent to the increment of classified officers), and
as I feel sure that faithful services of any officers will be recognized, I hope,
that this small addition to last years vote will meet with the approval of the hon.
the Chief Secretary. I need not add, that I should hail with gratitude any additional
provision, which the Ministerial Chief may feel pleased to render for the resuscitation
of my Department as a whole, and if desired can afford fuller explanations of my views
on this subject.

I have the honor to be, Sir,
Your obedient
Ferd. von Mueller,
Gov. Botanist.

These estimates have been marked 'approved' by B. O'Loghlen, Acting Chief Secretary.
|
In addition to this the sum of £125 would be required, if action is to be taken on
a proposition of mine, made 7. Sept. 1878,
and then approved of by the hon. Graham Berry, to issue here a more complete edition
of the Universal Flora of Australia in three volumes at £250 each during six years.

See M to G. Berry, 7 September 1878.

This has also been marked 'approved' by O'Loghlen. However, the proposed work was not published. See also M to J. Patterson, 14 April 1879 (in this edition as 79-04-14a).
