Letter not found. The text given here is from 'Australian seeds', California farmer and journal of useful sciences, 8 May 1879. p. 68. It is dated to late March as the latest likely date that it could have been sent to have been reported in this issue of the newspaper.

The item also acknowledged seeds from the 'Acclimatization Society of New Zealand' and 'a parcel valuable seeds from the Directory of the Royal Gardens, at Victoria', that is, from William Guilfoyle. The Melbourne Botanic Garden was not granted the appellation until 1958.
