Es wird Sie interessiren, zu erfahren, lieber Herr Doctor, dass Mr Tietkens, der Gefährte von Giles in dessen 2tn u 3tn Reise, jetzt als "Surveyor" eine eigne Cameel-Expedition leiten wird, wofür Sir Thomas Elder die Kameele und auch andere Mittel hergiebt.

Mr Tietkens reist jetzt von Adelaide nach Beltana ab, und zieht von da mit den Dromedaren nach Fowler's Bay, um die im Hinterlande der “great Bight” gelegenen Gras- u Weide- Ländereien der tertiären Kalk-formation zu durchstreifen, während der kühleren Jahreszeit. Wo immer Dämme, um Regenwasser aufzufangen, sich bilden lassen, kann eine Weidestation begründet werden, u so ist es selbstverständlich auch mit dem Bohren von Brunnen, obwohl vielfach in solchen Fällen man auf Salzwasser kommen wird. Wo immer aber das Erlangen von frischem Wasser gelingt, ist der Wohlstand, ja Reichthum, eines Heerden-Besitzers begründet, zumal eines Schaafzüchters, denn es sind an beiden Seiten der Bight Häfen, aus denen die Wolle verschifft werden kann ohne überaus langem Land-Transport. Mr Tietkens ist noch jung, sehr robust, tüchtig für Explorationen eingeschult und dazu ein professioneller Landmesser; so kann er auch noch bedeutend mithelfen im nächsten Decennium die geographische Karte des Austral Continents zu vervollständigen.

to travel through the grass and pasture lands of the Tertiary limestone formation in the hinterland of the "Great Bight" during the cooler season. Whereever dams are built to catch rainwater, a pastoral station can be established and so also is it of course with the boring of wells, although many times in such cases one will come on salt water. However, wherever one succeeds in the obtaining of fresh water, the prosperity, even wealth of a stock owner, is established, especially of a sheep breeder, because there are harbours on both sides of the Bight from which the wool can be shipped without extremely long land transport. Mr Tietkens is still young, very robust, ably schooled for exploration and in addition is a professional surveyor, so he can also still assist significantly in the next decade to complete the geographical chart of the Australian continent.
