Letter not found. The text given here is from ‘Tanner’s bark–tanner’s trees’, California farmer and journal of useful sciences, 6 March 1879, p. 28. The letter is dated to January 1879 as the latest likely date that it could have been sent to have been reported in this issue of the newspaper. The article discusses the 'Report of the "Wattle Bark" Board of Inquiry' (B78.14.01).

No further reference or extract from the Report has been found, although in the issue of 8 January 1880, p. 162 on ‘The black wattle tree’ it is stated: 'Some months ago we published a full account of this tree and its value, on account of the intrinsic worth of its bark for tanning purposes'.
