this season. The lake which is the principal dependence of the inhabitants there has already become overgrown with a weed which none of the residents remember to have seen before. The growth is stated to have something of the rapidity of Jack the Giant Killer's bean-stalk about it, and the surface of the lake is almost completely covered with a little dull red flower which it carries. Having come so suddenly, it is possible it may die away again just as quickly, and if this occurs, it is quite possible the water may be materially injured for domestic or other purposes. A sample of the weed bas been forwarded to Baron Von Mueller by Mr. Bartleman, of this town.
