Office of Lands & Survey,
Melbourne, 23rd. Sept., 1878.
Sir,
I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 11th instant,
with the accompanying Volume on Select Plants,
and to inform you that the new line of road between St Kilda and Sandridge,
has been marked out on the ground along the shores of the Bay, about 1½ to 2 ½ chains
outside of high water mark.

If you could conveniently make an examination of the ground, you will be in a position
to form an opinion respecting the nature of the soil, stagnant water &c. in relation
to the subject of plantings.
The line of road is well defined by pegs along the outside and centre lines, consequently
there should be no difficulty in following it.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient Servant
Secretary for Lands.
