W. H. Odgers Esqr,
Undersecretary.
Sir
Being still very weak after my last illness, I think that a few weeks field-work would
greatly invigorate me; I would therefore beg to ask, whether the hon. the Chief Secretary
will allow me for 2 or 3 weeks to proceed to the Lower Murray-River to investigate
more closely than I had formerly an opportunity the spring-vegetation there, and to
extend these researches along the Darling-River partly with a view of fixing the geographic
limits northward of many Victorian species of plants (for notes of the volumes on
our native flora) and partly with an intention of adding to the Museum collections
of my Department
I have the honor to be,
Sir, your obedient servant
Ferd. von Mueller.
