Letter not found. The text given here is from 'Forest culture', Leader, 18 January 1879, p. 8. The letter is dated to September 1878 on the basis that a letter from M was read at the meeting of the Chamber of Manufactures on 13 September 1878 and referred to the Timber Trees Subcommittee to be prepared for publication (South Australian chronicle and weekly mail, 21 September 1878). The sub-committee report was adopted on 17 December 1878 (Adelaide observer, 21 December 1878, p. 6).
[The following report is furnished by the Timber Tree Sub-committee of the Adelaide Chamber of Manufactures:— Baron von Mueller expresses pleasure that the Chamber have taken up the important subject of forest culture with so much spirit and vigour. He is unable to comply with the request of the committee
