For a published version of this letter, see Moyal (2003), p. 1216.
I feel touched with your mark of attention, dear Major Clarke, in sending me a copy
of the last work of your illustrious parent.
I shall use the work always with reverence as from one, for whom I have felt since
the 31 years of my scientific engagements in the Australian continent the very profoundest
regard. I can assure you, that I shall cherish the memory of the Rev. W. B. Clarke
always with the gladdest remembrance, both for his wide range of scientific discoveries
and for the noble character of the departed savant. It is difficult for me to realize,
that, I shall never get a generous letter from him any more.
