The honorable Graham Berry, M.L.A.
Chief Secretary
Sir.
I have the honor to solicit, that my plain popular work on Victorian plants, may be
printed at the office of the Gov. Printer or that some provision may be made on the
new estimates with a view of bringing out the work by a private firm. The print of
the work was commenced two years ago, but discontinued, in order that my smaller school-book
(since furnished to all the state-schools) should have precedence.
1
B77.08.01.
The first part, comprising about 150 pages with about 50 wood-cuts, would be complete
by itself,
and the continuation would comprise three parts more, each of which might appear
in one year. The wood engravings for the first part are nearly all ready at Mr Ferres's
Office, so that the issue of this first portion of the work might be accomplished
in a few months, should it meet with your approbation.
2
B79.06.04. The work when published had 190 pages. No further parts were published.
I have the honor to be,
Sir, your obedient servant
Ferd. von Mueller.

Berry minuted his approval of M's request on 2 July 1878. M responded on 3 July: 'Returned
with best thanks for the hon. the Chief Secretarys approval'. In M to W. Odgers, 4 July 1878, M asked that a memorandum be sent to J. Ferres, the Government Printer, instructing
him to print the book. This was done on 5 July, and Ferres noted the Chief Secretary's
approval on 8 July.
