6. May 1878.
To the honorable the Chief Secretary.
Sir
In compliance with your request
I have the honor of submitting herewith a memorandum of the requirements of buildings
for my Department during the next financial year:
1
Request not found.
Buildings for offices, for Museum-work and scientific purposes £1,800
I may remark, that the sum of £900 lapsed two years ago, after having been voted by
Parliament,
as the reconstruction of the Department had not been fully effected then, and thus
the place for the needful new buildings could not be decided on.
The sum is now doubled, it thus representing two years building-vote.
2
Included in ‘Estimates
of revenue & expenditure for the year ending 30th June 18',
Parliamentary paper
1876 B-1, p. 47, under ‘Sundry works, Melbourne’, as ‘Extension and other works, Botanical Museum, including fittings and furniture’.
3
M had requested that the vote be used for a new building, but was refused, (M to W. Odgers, 23 February 1877.)
4
MS annotation by W. Odgers, Under Secretary: 'See printed Ests 1878 No special provision'. Under this was added in an unknown hand: 'later papers […]'. See also M to W. Odgers, 23 July 1878 (in this edition as 78-07-23b) and notes thereto.
I have the honor to be,
Sir, your obedient servant
Ferd. von Mueller,
Gov. Botanist.
