Dear Baron Mueller
May I ask the favour from you of critically examining the enclosed specimens of an Euphorbiaceous plant, which I lately gathered in the Upper Maitai Valley, Nelson? I suppose that it must be placed near the Australian genus , from which, however, it appears to differ in habit and in the opposite leaves. From want of books and specimens I am not in a position to determine whether it fits in with any described genus, although I suspect that it is distinct. I am a little interested with it as Forster's Euphorbia glauca is the only member of the order hitherto recorded from New Zealand.
Yours very faithfully
T. F. Cheeseman
