My dear Baron,
I send you three packets — one of them with fruit an other with leaves & fruit, from
the same vine for identification, so that there may be no longer any doubts as to
the blossom and fruit coming from the same vine — I have seen more fruit in a green
state on vines close to where I got this — It appears to me an exceptional Season
or rather perhaps a special one for this vine to fruit & flower — as I have been before
over the same ground and saw not a sign of either — and might not for years again
perhaps — No 308 was sent to me as the flower of what is commonly called the red tamarind
— the fruit is contained in a conjoined capsule — two or three on a stalk, and contains
the stone (oblong) sent back to me by you — I dont know whether you received a small
tin canister containing a branchlet of the sour cherry as it is called. It is an immense
bearer, and I think could be utilized as a fruit tree. I will see after the Valerian
and some other matters when I get my specimens from Ballina
— You will oblige me by letting me know what the enclosed seeds are — if you know
them. They were sent to me by a young lady, who wishes to know. She planted a few
but nothing appeared.

P.S. Since the above was written I find I shall have to go to Ballina for two or three
weeks.
