[From Baron F. von Mueller, recommending that the new weed at Wendouree be either dug up or raked up, and stating that the swans were exceedingly fond of the finer sample, and would do much to check the growth.]

At its meeting on 7 January 1878 (reported in Ballarat star, 8 January 1878, p. 4) the Council had received a report from its Lake and Gardens Committee recommending that 'a sample of the new sedgy weed that covers the bottom of the lake in the clearing be sent to Baron von Mueller, with request for his opinion as to the best means of destroying it or arresting its further growth'.
